The Harris County Flood Control District’s Information Services Department, through its Geographic Information Services section, utilized the Esri developer tool, DS MapBook, to create a detailed, countywide atlas that is being used by all employees of Harris County, Texas. The map book series includes a printed and bound 512-page Standard Edition at 1:18,000 and a 1,140-page Aerial Photography Edition at 1:12,000 for departmental library use. The books cover 1,750 square miles and contain detailed hydrographical, jurisdictional, transportation, cultural, right-of-way, and parcel information for the county, which includes Houston. The map books have already proven a valuable commodity in the daily activities of the district and have become an important asset for increasing the levels of service to the communities and citizens of Harris County. A digital version of each edition, as well as an additional version containing comprehensive floodplain information, has been developed and is available via the Internet to all employees of Harris County through a custom, browser-based application. The application is utilized daily by the Harris County Commissioners, Toll Road Authority, Public Infrastructure and Engineering, Flood Control District, Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Justice Information Management, and Public Health and Environmental Services offices, to name a few. In all, the application is being provided to approximately 11,000 Harris County employee desktops. Courtesy of Harris County Flood Control District, Texas. |
