The Gulfport Division of GIS provides city departments and local agencies with accurate geographic information and analysis tools to increase staff efficiency and reduce redundant data collection and analysis activities among the departments. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Division of GIS was tasked with unprecedented levels of data collection, assimilation, and dissemination. Outside agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Guard, cleanup contractors, emergency response teams, and humanitarian organizations all drew on the division for support. This map represents some of the many datasets developed as part of the recovery effort on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
