High-Definition Fishing Map Series

Navionics manufactures electronic navigation charts and systems for inland lakes, rivers, marine areas, and outdoor recreation. This map represents the first time in Navionics’ 23-year history that a paper product has been produced. The HotMaps Premium Paper Map Series blankets more than 40 states and includes the top 300 fishing lakes in the United States. The series is part of the Navionics Bathymetry Dataset covering more than 10,000 lakes. This is produced by seasoned anglers and intended for use by fishermen and boaters who require insight into lake bottom structure.

Navionics' hydrographic survey team captured the subsurface elevation data using a combination of proprietary hydrographic survey equipment and aftermarket GPS hardware and software configurations. Surveyors employ on-the-water data editing techniques to ensure maximum accuracy. These maps have a scale range of 1:10,000 to 1:30,000 and feature one-foot bottom contour intervals. The elevation data was interpolated in ArcGIS using custom scripts. Navigational aids, boater reference information, and points of interest were properly positioned with the help of USGS imagery and ground truthing. Bathymetric shading gradations and an extruded digital elevation model allow boaters the at-a-glance recognition of bottom features that this type of map requires. All Navionics paper maps are waterproof and tear resistant, and they float if dropped overboard.
