Village of Winfield Utility Atlas

The Village of Winfield, located in Winfield, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, wanted a systematic method for analyzing where funds would best be spent on capital improvements and maintenance of its roadway and utility infrastructure. Patrick Engineering digitized data from existing plan sets and—working with the village engineers and public works personnel—categorized the condition of roadway surfaces and utility piping. Within the GIS, each feature was located inside a roadway segment. Then the system and overall condition ratings were calculated for each segment. These ratings and utilities were mapped allowing GIS users to use custom reports to determine the replacement cost of any features.
