This one-acre grid analysis assesses the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s water quality and water quantity constraints in locating new public community drinking water wells. The groundwater quality constraints, identified from source water protection strategies, potentially could contaminate source water, requiring a need for increased monitoring and treatment as well as removal of affected wells from service. The water quantity portion of the analysis maps areas where water resource-related concerns exist such as stressed aquifers or endangered species habitat. Each analysis can be used independently for planning future groundwater diversions. However, both analyses cumulatively provide a holistic tool for evaluating water quality and quantity constraints in locating future drinking water wells.
