The Hokkaido-Chizu Company created this map of Lake Toya, Hokkaido, in Japan, using a process of combining textured images and polygons together in ArcGIS. Landscape features were selected from vector data sources, overlaid, and divided into closed-domain polygons. Land use areas, such as vegetation and urban, were each assigned attributes to identify them. Several landscape textures were created externally to mimic the local and natural environment of Lake Toya. ArcGIS 3D Analyst then was used to apply the texture images to the scene. This automated process makes it possible to model a landscape image that is realistic and visually pleasing. Courtesy of Hokkaido-Chizu Company Ltd. |
