This volumetric proportional symbol map illustrates the location and number of troops contributed by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) missions as of May 31, 2007. A table on the full-size version of the map details the number of troops contributed to specific missions by United Nations’ member states. It also shows the authorized and actual strength of each mission in accordance with the associated Security Council resolutions authorizing the mission. Maps such as this are produced quarterly using DPKO’s monthly summary of military and police contributions to U.N. operations and are used in DPKO briefings and in consultations with representatives of potential troop-contributing countries.
