The nearshore region of San Diego County has both a direct and indirect influence on the heavily populated coastal community. In order to address a number of local issues, federal and state agencies, academic institutions, and industry have acquired multibeam bathymetry data offshore the San Diego area. This data supports a variety of issues including the mapping of offshore hazards, pollution transport pathways, benthic habitats, and anthropogenic impacts.

These maps show both plan and perspective views of the sea floor off San Diego including La Jolla and Scripps submarine canyons, Coronado Bank, and rock outcrops off Point Loma. The maps are compiled from multibeam bathymetry data collected by a number of agencies. Land imagery is generated from merged SPOT and Landsat satellite imagery draped on USGS DEMs.
