The role of mapping at the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is to provide visual aids to decision makers who generate policy in support of the United States’ war on drugs. Statistical data such as demographic, workforce drug testing, and mortality data, from a variety of sources, is mapped in order to pinpoint problem areas. These areas are then analyzed further to determine if assistance in the form of grants and programs is needed. Additionally, determining sources of illicit drugs entering the country is a critical part of drug-control strategy. These map products created by the ONDCP have been of great assistance in making United States drug policy work.
