This map shows a range of continuous values from low to high where the higher values indicate greater propensity for a village. These values were determined by combining 22 various land use and transportation characteristics. Examples include planned land use, transit stops and transit routes, parks, schools, and shopping centers to name just a few.

Each characteristic was given a numeric value based on its contribution to village-like development, and an “area of influence” was provided around a characteristic to capture the value of walkability desired in smart-growth areas.

The final values were determined by adding the values together. Areas in the city that have characteristics in close proximity to one another will most likely have overlapping “areas of influence” and therefore tend to have the highest propensity, which are shown as red on the map.
