In 2006, an analysis of noise complaints was undertaken to examine problem locations in the city of Melbourne and make recommendations to City Council members on strategies to combat these issues. This was performed by mapping the top six sources of noise complaints, representing 88 percent of all noise complaints, using color and size to represent source and the number of complaints respectively. Further analysis by suburb, road, and properties in the central business district (CBD) yielded a map of problem locations. ArcScene was used to extrude road and property polygons to obtain a 3D perspective and further highlight the worst-offending locations.
