Canada’s Aboriginal languages are many and diverse. Published in 2006 and based on the 2001 Canadian Census, this map represents the major Aboriginal languages spoken as a mother tongue by Aboriginals in Canadian cities and Aboriginal communities. This map was designed to provide a quick overview of the diversity and extent of Aboriginal languages across Canada and communicate detailed information about specific cities and communities. Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomerations are used to represent cities on the map. Pie charts showing the breakdown of Aboriginal languages are shown for cities with a mother-tongue population greater than 200. Census Subdivisions (equivalent to a municipality) considered to be Aboriginal communities were used to represent communities on the map. These are shown as color point symbols that denote the major Aboriginal language mother tongue reported. Courtesy of Focus Corporation. |
