The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is one of the few inland deltas in the world. Its location near several metropolitan areas and its unique landscape of hundreds of miles of river channels constitute a prime recreation resource in Northern California. The delta is distributed across six counties and is shared by multiple agencies, making it important for a state-level agency, such as the Department of Boating and Waterways, to develop a master strategy for recreational development.

The Dangermond Group used GIS to create this map of recreational resorts, what facilities they have, and all of the land owned by the agencies that share the delta. A report was developed to share recommendations for how agencies can work together to create destinations and to meet the recreational needs of the people in the region for years to come.
