The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) Mapping Unit has produced an enhanced version of the state of Vermont’s Transportation Map. The Vermont Legislature’s Senate Transportation Committee requested VTrans to update the map, originally created in the 1990s using CAD. Using data stored and maintained in ArcSDE 9.1, the new 1:200,000 scale base map shows all 15,800 miles of public highway and legal trails that VTrans has on record, including railroads, airports, and base map features. The majority of VTrans in-house maps are black and white, but this map uses colored symbology to allow for easy recognition and reference. Additional features include Department of Motor Vehicle offices, maintenance district boundaries, garages, salt and sand sheds, rest areas, park-and-ride lots, scenic highways, and other transportation facilities. Currently, the House and Senate Transportation Committees use this map for reference and aid in decision-making processes for Vermont’s transportation network and facilities.
