Traffic safety is a primary function of local government in order to ensure mobility, protect the welfare of residents, promote economic development, and document responsible public improvement expenditures. The City of Yakima has produced a series of maps to be used in safety analysis, public presentations, and support documentation when seeking grant assistance from state or federal programs. The map series presents traffic safety findings based on analysis of various locally collected data sources, including five years of police department vehicle collision reports, traffic volume data, pedestrian counts, vehicle gap analysis, and vehicle turning movement counts. This map, titled “Red Light Running Analysis,” contains data that was used to compare and evaluate signalized intersections for the potential installation of an automated enforcement program to reduce broadside collisions. The results will be used to prioritize projects and evaluate the relative need for public safety improvements and are valuable tools for enforcement efforts. Copyright, City of Yakima, Washington. |
