These maps were created to visualize the distribution of existing poverty rates and race, as well as anticipated housing and employment growth, along the existing railroad corridor through Monterey County, California. The Transportation Authority of Monterey County (TAMC) plans to establish local rail service through the partly abandoned corridor. The connection between population and race and population and poverty are shown on the maps using proportionally symboled pie charts. Three buffer zones were created around proposed stations to show the extent of which conditions of race and poverty exist. Together with forecast growth (from Traffic Analysis Zones), these maps allow planners to establish rail service for communities in the region.
