This map illustrates TNMP's transmission system and its relation to the electrical transmission grid in Texas. TNMP, formerly Texas-New Mexico Power Company, is a relatively small utility primarily focused on providing retail electric service. Its transmission lines support its distribution system (indicated by the service area polygons).
TNMP does not operate any large, high voltage intrastate transmission lines. In addition to TNMP's infrastructure being totally lost in the vast complex sea of the Texas grid, TNMP operations are dispersed throughout the state sometimes in areas of very small geographic extent and with very densely packed facilities. This cartographic challenge was met with an extensive use of inset maps and ArcGIS cartographic feature class representations. This map is intended for a wide audience within TNMP and throughout the electric utility industry in Texas.
TNMP has provided community-based electric service since 1935 and currently supports seventy-six towns and more than 216,000 customers throughout Texas. The utility is owned by PNM Resources, an energy holding company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
