This map shows the immense GIS data in Qatar shared among forty-four agencies coordinated by The Centre for GIS. Each agency is responsible for updating and maintaining its own data. Public data is shared among all the agencies by replicating the agency data from its server in a batch process to a server accessible by all agencies. All agencies use the data in the public server in their day-to-day activities connected by a high-speed multi protocol label switching network.
Effective coordination is maintained among agencies through a national steering committee and regular meetings involving representatives of all the agencies. Data sharing is standardized with all the agencies using the same Esri software and compatible data dictionaries. This map shows the agencies connected to The Centre for GIS, Urban Planning & Development Authority. Using ArcToolbox, selected data from each agency was clipped to specific areas based on districts in Qatar. Each agency owning the data is labeled in the map along with the data type.
