Using U.S. Census data, the distribution of dwelling units is mapped for the island of Guam. This map will help transportation planners manage the growth of Guam upon the relocation of several U.S. military bases.

Over the next several years, the United States will relocate thousands of military personnel from Okinawa, Japan, to the island of Guam. The relocation of thousands of marines and their families will have a major impact on the island's infrastructure. Housing, schools, and services will have to be built. New roads and new utilities will be needed, and existing roads will have to be upgraded.

These maps were part of a series of maps created to show the distribution of different demographic variables depending on various development scenarios on the island of Guam. Using traffic modeling software and inputs from Traffic Analysis Zone data, employment and housing are forecast for future years. ArcGIS is used to manage and symbolize these distributions and gives planners a good way to visualize the development alternatives.
