City of West Linn

This tabloid sized, double-sided bike map shows street ratings for cyclists, multiuse trails for family bicycling, and bicycle routes for experienced riders in West Linn, Oregon. The bike ratings and routes were reviewed and updated by the Clackamas County Bicycle Advisory committee members, citizens of West Linn, and city staff involved in the cycling community. Bicycle advisory committee members helped by riding paths in the city to help check the accuracy and usability of the map. The goal was to show detail for in-city riding rather than just the major routes leading in and out of the city. Scenic areas, bike shops, restrooms, and key elevations are also included on the map.

Map elements, custom symbol sets, design, and layout were created by West Linn's GIS staff using Esri ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 software. This was the first bike map produced by the city. It was made available free to the public on the city's Web site and at City Hall in printed form at a nominal cost. The map can also be used in conjunction with the Portland metropolitan area bike map called "Bike There," produced by Metro, the regional planning agency.
