Baselining Residential CO2 Emissions for Las Vegas Metropolitan Area

University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Click to Enlarge Baselining Residential CO2 Emissions

The map, part of a research thesis, shows average electricity consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per dwelling of each residential street in the Las Vegas Metro area, comparing them to national and state averages. These maps can be used by homeowners to become aware of their street-specific CO2 emissions and by policy makers to recognize energy-intensive hot spots in the region and formulate area-specific reduction goals. By adding the residential parcel layer, the relation between age (year of construction), size of dwelling, and energy use can now be visualized on a regional as well as neighborhood scale.
