The Kennebec Estuary—Lands in Permanent Conservation Protection

The Nature Conservancy

Located in beautiful midcoast Maine, the Kennebec Estuary is one of the largest and most important freshwater tidal ecosystems for fish and wildlife in the eastern United States. The combination of fast-moving water and large wetland areas adjacent to rural upland buffer results in a complex of wetlands significant to a diversity of waterbirds, rare plants, fish and wildlife species, anadromous fish, and neotropical migrants.

The Nature Conservancy has been working with partners for over fifteen years to preserve this precious place. This map was designed to highlight the organization’s conservation progress and inspire further support from its partners and donors.
