A number of tools were developed in the Scott AFB/MidAmerica St. Louis Airport Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to guide compatible development. The planning tools included encroachment reduction strategies and an airport overlay zoning template, which is in the process of being adopted by several local governments.
The GIS data tools included the JLUS geography, airport overlay zoning template geography, a consistent zoning data layer for five local government jurisdictions, and a three-dimensional model of the Scott AFB/MidAmerica St. Louis Airport aerodrome.
The 3D model was designed to visualize the aboveground geography of joint use imaginary areas with existing and proposed land uses. This map shows the Scott AFB and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport runway approaches and glide slopes from the southeast to the northwest horizon with accident potential zones, existing and proposed residential land uses, and existing commercial development.
