Started in 1968, Auroville is an experimental, universal township in south India where people of all countries are encouraged to live in peace and progressive harmony regardless of creed, political background, and nationality. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.
This map represents the ground realities of the site and includes the following layers: hydrology, vegetation, high biodiversity areas, landownership, water percolation areas, roads and pathways, villages, and buildings. All these are overlaid on the 1968 “Galaxy” master plan concept. Planning efforts are being made to realize the master plan concept on current ground realities using the power of GIS analysis.
