The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque, popularly called Grand Mosque by local residents, is an iconic building on the Abu Dhabi landscape. As such, its visibility in the urban landscape must be preserved. To accomplish this, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council relied on the 3D analytical capabilities of GIS to identify view corridors and determine the maximum building heights that would affect the view within these corridors. These building heights are then worked into the building height policy for the area.
