These maps are part of the Columbia County Tax Parcel Map Books, which are produced annually as part of the county’s tax roll workflow processes in accordance with state law. The map books are published using PLTS, posted online, and then printed in triplicate for the county Land Information Department, the local municipality, and the municipal assessor.
Map design is simple and uncluttered, providing only necessary information to orient the user and allow for a link to other systems containing detailed property information, such as survey records, assessment and tax data, and legally recorded documents. The simplicity of the design allows for the map books to be easily read by the public and also promotes efficient data maintenance of the maps and supporting geodatabases.
Tax parcel maps are accurate representations of property boundary lines from legal records or other acceptable property descriptions at appropriate scales to provide a graphic inventory of parcels. They are index maps that show the relative size and location of each parcel with respect to other parcels. They are used for locating and describing properties that are linked to owners, tax bills, and other assessment information. The maps also facilitate administration, zoning, building and site development, as well as the planning, design, and construction of roads and public works. In the private sector, parcel maps are useful to attorneys, appraisers, assessors, surveyors, engineers, and utility corporations as a means to inventory land holdings and index land records.
