The digital landscape modeling group from hepia Geneva, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, is mainly involved in modeling and animating 3D city landscapes and rural territories for the purpose of urban analyses. This 3D city model was generated using an automated routine that converts 2D GIS data to a 3D virtual model, keeping the link with related GIS databases. Tree and forest representation is often unsatisfactory in the 3D field despite their importance in the visual perception of the territory. This approach automatically creates a large-scale vegetation model using the GIS databases. The information provided is related to the type of tree, its location, and its height.
