In the wake of the Deep Water Horizon explosion April 20, 2010, timely monitoring of the scope and direction of the resulting oil spill were of critical concern. The ability of RADARSAT to capture imagery over large regions of the Gulf of Mexico, independent of solar illumination and weather conditions, made it extremely well-suited to provide rapid and consistent coverage of the Gulf. These are representative examples of RADARSAT imagery that assisted the U.S. government and British Petroleum in their assessment, mitigation, and cleanup efforts.
