This choropleth map is one example from a series of maps, produced daily, which display participation rates for the 2010 Census at the census tract level. The maps were created in ArcGIS 9.3 software and exported as layered PDF files.
The maps were designed to allow 2010 Census managers to zoom into a particular area of interest, on screen, and turn boundary and label layers on and off to explore the participation rate data. Maps were produced every day in the weeks leading up to and following April 1, 2010 (Census Day). Tract level participation rate data was broken into ten data classes and displayed using colors that matched the "2010 Census Take 10 Map" public web mapping application.
In addition to the tract level participation rate data, the maps displayed state and county boundaries and names, regional census center boundaries and numbers, and local census office boundaries and numbers. The map legends also displayed tallies of the number of tracts that fell into each data class.
