This map illustrates the capabilities of GIS technology for developing, analyzing, and visualizing neighbor-hood design and planning concepts. The comparisons between hexagonal designs and traditional loop and cul-de-sac designs maintain parcel count, existing natural and development boundaries, and conform to modern subdivision regulations.
Additionally, road length, right-of-way area, speed limit, traffic control signage, and intersection count measures were included in the analysis. The hexagonal designs exemplify increases in safety and travel efficiency, demonstrate reductions in development costs, and encourage the consideration of hexagonal planning as a valid alternative to traditional design.
