The Black Jack Mountain High Service Area map was created to provide a quick visual of the boundary for an area with a higher hydraulic gradient line where the water pressure was inadequate. It is one of four high service areas in Cobb County.
It is critical to the utility's distribution operation to ensure the isolation of the high-pressure system from the normal-pressure system. The map provides a detail for each of the essential valves located in the high-pressure system. Each detail shows the valve that must remain closed and valves that may be operated for general maintenance while preventing the 3 million gallon tank from emptying.
The map is referred to often for daily operations. Engineers can quickly make decisions about pressure problems reported in the area and determine if extending the high-pressure zone is a potential solution. The map is used for Cobb County's Valve GPS & Exercise Program, allowing crews to quickly determine which valves cannot be exercised during this effort.
