The Sewer Map Basin 311 map was created to chart progress in Cobb County Water System's Manhole Inspection and GPS program. Basin 311 is one of ninety-five sewer sub basins located in Cobb County. The county has a very proactive approach to sewer manhole inspection and these maps quickly show manholes or areas that need to be addressed.
By using different symbols for manholes located with GPS and those not located with GPS, the crews can easily identify the areas where they need to collect GPS locations. The maps are distributed to the Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) group for scheduling crews to perform the work. Since beginning the GPS effort twelve years ago, the I&I group has inspected and GPS located more than 56,000 of the county's 72,000 manholes. Whether the Cobb County Water System is monitoring progress or mobilizing crews, the maps have proven critical to the success of the program.
