Improved Work Flow Management for Enterprise GIS Projects

Announcing Job Tracking for ArcGIS 9

Version 2.1 of Job Tracking for ArcGIS (JTX) improves job tracking and work flow management in ArcGIS 9. JTX is a solution-based extension that provides an integration framework for ArcGIS multiuser geodatabase environments. This enterprise work flow management application simplifies and automates many aspects of job management and tracking, resulting in improved efficiency and significant time savings for enterprise GIS projects (e.g., data maintenance and commercial mapping).

Organize, standardize, and streamline project work flows with Job Tracking for ArcGIS (JTX). Inset: Distribute and manage work geographically using Job Tracking for ArcGIS.

Developed by the implementation services team within Esri's Professional Services Division, JTX is already successfully installed in government agencies and large utility companies. It provides tools for allocating resources and tracking the status and progress of jobs. A detailed history of job actions is automatically recorded for each job to give managers a play-by-play description of how the job was completed. This information can be supplemented with comments and notes to provide even richer job documentation.

Job Tracking for ArcGIS handles complex geodatabase tasks behind the scenes by creating and managing versions. A comprehensive transaction management infrastructure is provided to support historical tracking of feature edits and feature metadata. Additionally, developers can use the JTX integration points and application programming interface to leverage existing or off-the-shelf solutions and develop a custom user interface for performing all job tracking tasks.

Job Tracking for ArcGIS allows users to

  • Create and assign work to appropriate resources.
  • Organize, standardize, and streamline project work flows.
  • Distribute work geographically.
  • Centralize all job-related information for easy retrieval and update.
  • Manage versions for simultaneous editing.
  • Better plan and allocate resources based on status tracking and job activity.
  • Track feature changes for improved accountability and quality control.

In addition to the above features, new capabilities in version 2.1 of Job Tracking for ArcGIS include

  • Support for ArcGIS 9
  • Flexible database connection options at configuration time
  • Improved rollback capability if the transaction logging process is aborted
  • Session tracking and transaction logging, which allow the database to maintain the status of the posting process
  • Greater control over which layers have transactions logged during the JTX reconciling and postprocessing tasks
  • Improved tools for querying and displaying transactions
  • Support for adding layer files, topologies, and networks to the map while ensuring data references the correct geodatabase version for the job

Job Tracking for ArcGIS requires ArcSDE in addition to ArcInfo or ArcEditor. For more information, visit www.esri.com/jobtracking, call Esri at 1-800-447-9778, or call your Esri regional office. Outside the United States, contact your local Esri distributor.
