ESRI China (Hong Kong) Limited to Host First ESRI Asia-Pacific User Conference

Abstracts for Paper Presentations Currently Being Accepted

Redlands, California—ESRI announced today that the first ESRI Asia-Pacific User Conference (APUC) will be held January 12–13, 2006, at Cyberport in Hong Kong. The theme of the conference is GIS Sustaining the World's Fastest Growing Region. The conference will bring together ESRI users in the Asia-Pacific region to learn about the latest developments in ESRI's software and technologies and share ideas, experiences, and best practices of geographic information system (GIS) technology and its various applications in the Asia-Pacific region.

The first day of the conference will begin with a welcoming speech by Dr. Winnie Tang, chief executive officer of ESRI China (Hong Kong) Limited. There will be a preview and demonstration of ESRI's newest GIS technology. A number of well-known professionals from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, China, and the Asian region will make presentations in the plenary session.

Technical sessions led by product experts will provide an excellent opportunity to learn detailed information about using ESRI's ArcGIS software. Users from different industries will demonstrate how ArcGIS enables them to improve their workflow and problem-solving skills. A number of presentation sessions will feature industry leaders and experts who will share insights into their applications and projects, describe how GIS serves as the backbone of spatial data infrastructure, and highlight its increased application in both public and private sectors in the Asia-Pacific region. Business partners and other GIS-related technology companies will showcase their GIS solutions in the Exhibit Hall.

Pre- and post conference training sessions, led by ESRI instructors, will be arranged to provide attendees the opportunity to learn more about ESRI software and its capabilities. In addition, the conference will offer sightseeing excursions, a welcome reception, and gala dinner. A detailed agenda is available from the APUC 2006 Web site.

Cyberport is Hong Kong's flagship information technology (IT) infrastructure project composed of many multinational and well-known IT corporations. Discounted accommodation rates are available to conference registrants.

"This GIS conference is the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, although Europe and the United States have organized similar events for more than 20 years," said Dr. Tang. "Attendees will represent a wide range of organizations, fields of interest, and degrees of GIS expertise. We expect this conference to inevitably generate high interest and succeed in further increasing the awareness and applications of GIS in the region."

Participants are invited to submit papers for presentation at the conference. The deadline for abstract submission is September 20, 2005.
