IBM and Esri Deliver Cost Savings to Los Angeles Unified School District
Managing aging facilities is a costly line item in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) budget.  Recognizing a need to cut expenses, LAUSD turned to CitySourced in Los Angeles for a crowdsourcing app to help manage the reporting of facilities repair requests. The district’s asset management software, Maximo Asset Management, and basemaps and GIS tools from Esri were integrated into the crowdsourcing app that could be used on smartphones.  Once fully implemented, the district could realize as much as an 80 percent reduction in maintenance request-processing expenses.

Esri and IBM Announce Netezza Spatial for ArcGIS 10.1 
Esri and IBM demonstrated Netezza Spatial, querying and displaying Esri query layers with Netezza SQL at the recent GEOINT conference in San Antonio.  All industries needing to query and display petabyte scale spatial data can now do so 10 to 100 times faster than was previously possible.  Industries with very large spatial data assets can now perform complex analytics for risk assessment and mitigation, fraud detection, broad area site selection, and utility grid performance in a fraction of the time that it previously took.  

Esri’s SpotOn Systems Hosts Geospatial BI Webinars
The recently completed GBI-1 series of SpotOn Systems webinars explains the value of geographic analysis and map-based reporting to IBM Cognos users.  The recorded webinars are beneficial to users of other BI applications, particularly for their discussions on consumer mapping versus GIS-based mapping in the BI world.  The archived webinars can be viewed online.

Esri Acquires SpotOn, Bringing Spatial Analytics to IBM Cognos Customers
The recent acquisition by Esri of SpotOn Systems will more readily deliver interactive mapping to IBM Cognos business intelligence applications. 

Esri Showcases BI Solutions at IBM Information on Demand 2011
Esri was a Gold sponsor of this year’s IBM IOD in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Visitors to the Esri booth were able to view demonstrations of ArcGIS integrations with IBM Cognos, SPSS, and Netezza, each of which allows for existing data to be more fully leveraged with geoanalytics.

Yakima Transit Implements Application using Esri and Adobe Solution
Learn how the City of Yakima, located in central Washington, is using ArcGIS and Adobe Flex to provide real time bus schedule information, benefitting both Yakima bus riders and transit staff.

Esri,Trimble, and DigitalGlobe Contribute to Making World-Famous Park Safer
Developed in the late-1800s, the 1,017-acre Golden Gate Park in San Francisco receives hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.  Resolving the costly problem presented by overgrown and dying mature trees required a tree inventory be made to properly plan, organize and prioritize the work. ArcGIS software was used to overlay a CAD drawing of the garden on GlobeXplorer aerial imagery from DigitalGlobe; to this, individual data for 701 trees was captured by arborist teams using Trimble GeoBeacon, completing the tree inventory.

Esri CityEngine 2011: Quickly Create 3D Models out of 2D Data
cityengine The newly released Esri City Engine 2011 contains new features including support for georeferenced data, such as Esri’s File Geodatabase (GDB) and KML, and improved user interface. Learn more or download a free trial at esri.com/cityengine.

Update to ArcGIS Runtime SDK for iOS Available to Download
Developers working on applications that will be compatible with the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 5, can download Esri’s updated ArcGIS Runtime Software Developer Kit for iOS (2.0.1) from the Esri Resource Center. Updated applications should be submitted to the App Store as soon as possible. Visit the Esri Mobile Resource Center blog for more information.

New Esri Technical Certification Exams Now Available
Two new technical certifications are currently available: ArcGIS Desktop Developer Associate and Enterprise System Design Associate

New Cloud e-Book from Esri
Cloud computing furnishes technological capabilities that are delivered on demand as services via the Internet. A new e-Book, GIS in the Cloud: The New Age of Cloud Computing and Geographic Information Systems, by Victoria Kouyoumjian, Esri IT strategies architect, shows how cloud technology and architecture can be leveraged by the GIS community

Philadelphia Public Works Project Uses ArcGIS to Save $1 Million per Year
The successful implementation of Philadelphia’s Department of Streets’ custom GIS application to coordinate the replacement of 87,000 incandescent light bulbs with light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs in the city’s traffic lights has realized an operational savings per year of over one million dollars.
