Esri Recognized with 3 Awards from Visual Studio Magazine
Visual Studio Magazine recently announced that ArcGIS API for Silverlight/WPF was the Readers Choice Award winner in the Mapping/GIS Tools category for the second year running. Also recognized was ArcGIS for SharePoint (now known as ArcGIS for SharePoint), a Readers Merit Award winner in the SharePoint Tools/Components category. ArcGIS for Desktop was a Readers Merit Award winner in the Mapping/GIS Components category, giving Esri a dominant victory in that section.

Esri a Silver Sponsor of SharePoint Connections
Microsoft SharePoint developers recently gathered to explore and learn about SharePoint solutions at the SharePoint Connections event in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event, co-located with four other Microsoft-specific platform events, cumulatively known as DevConnections, targeted the Microsoft developer crowd. Esri showcased ArcGIS for SharePoint and several other mapping solutions that enable visualization and analysis of organizational data in new, more revealing formats. Attendees had three opportunities to attend Esri speaking sessions that included mapping solutions using ArcGIS API for Silverlight/WPF and ArcGIS for Windows Phone.

Esri,Trimble, and DigitalGlobe Contribute to Making World-Famous Park Safer
Developed in the late-1800s, the 1,017-acre Golden Gate Park in San Francisco receives hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Resolving the costly problem presented by overgrown and dying mature trees required a tree inventory be made to properly plan, organize and prioritize the work. ArcGIS software was used to overlay a CAD drawing of the garden on GlobeXplorer aerial imagery from DigitalGlobe; to this, individual data for 701 trees was captured by arborist teams using Trimble GeoBeacon, completing the tree inventory.

Esri CityEngine 2011: Quickly Create 3D Models out of 2D Data
The newly released Esri City Engine 2011 contains new features including support for georeferenced data, such as Esri’s File Geodatabase (GDB) and KML, and improved user interface. Learn more or download a free trial at esri.com/cityengine.
Update to ArcGIS Runtime SDK for iOS Available to Download
Developers working on applications that will be compatible with the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 5, can download Esri’s updated ArcGIS Runtime Software Developer Kit for iOS (2.0.1) from the Esri Resource Center. Updated applications should be submitted to the App Store as soon as possible. Visit the Esri Mobile Resource Center blog for more information.
ArcGIS for Android Released
Users of Android phones equipped with ARMv7 or higher processors and OS v2.2 can now connect to ArcGIS Online or their on-premise ArcGIS server. Your Android phone can now be used to browse these maps, find addresses and places, collect GIS data, and much more. ArcGIS for Android can be downloaded from the Android Market. New Esri Technical Certification Exams Now Available
Two new technical certifications are currently available: ArcGIS Desktop Developer Associate and Enterprise System Design Associate.
New Cloud e-Book from Esri
Cloud computing furnishes technological capabilities that are delivered on demand as services via the Internet. A new e-book, GIS in the Cloud: The New Age of Cloud Computing and Geographic Information Systems, by Victoria Kouyoumjian, Esri IT strategies architect, shows how cloud technology and architecture can be leveraged by the GIS community.

Philadelphia Public Works Project Uses ArcGIS to Save $1 Million per Year
The successful implementation of Philadelphia’s Department of Streets’ custom GIS application to coordinate the replacement of 87,000 incandescent light bulbs with light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs in the city’s traffic lights has realized an operational savings per year of over one million dollars.
