ESRI Sponsors Microsoft Launch Wave 2008
ESRI is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the Microsoft Launch Wave 2008, a series of 200 worldwide events celebrating the launch of Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008. ESRI exhibited at the kickoff event in Los Angeles, California, on February 27, which brought together IT pros and developers from around the world. Attendees had the opportunity to get an in-depth, up-close look at the new products and meet with Microsoft partners as well as members of the development teams who created the new technologies. ESRI's Nate Johnson demonstrated the power of GIS with the new SQL Server 2008 spatial type on stage in the IT Pro-Data Platform breakout session. In the ESRI booth, attendees were able to gain an understanding of GIS and the ArcGIS platform and also see some of the new integration possibilities with Virtual Earth that will be available with ArcGIS 9.3.

Microsoft Sponsors 2008 ESRI Federal User Conference
ESRI thanks Microsoft for its Gold sponsorship of this year's Federal User Conference (FedUC), which took place February 20-22 in Washington, D.C. The FedUC is the largest geospatial conference dedicated to federal professionals. This year, 2,100 leaders, decision makers, and GIS professionals gathered to discover and hone key techniques for meeting goals and addressing issues in their respective lines of work. A combination of sessions, speakers, and social events provided opportunities to discover more about the geographic approach to decision making and explore how to fully leverage GIS technology.

ESRI Announces Support for the Spatial Enhancements of SQL Server 2008
ESRI's ArcGIS 9.3 software, the next scheduled release of ESRI's ArcGIS suite, will take full advantage of the new spatial technology in the upcoming release of SQL Server 2008. As shown at the November SQL Server 2008 community technology preview (CTP), Microsoft Corporation is extending the use and value of spatial technology by integrating it directly within SQL Server at no additional cost.

ESRI and Microsoft Technology Combat Air Pollution in Europe
Europe has made great strides in reducing its significant air pollution problem by implementing a Web site that uses ESRI and Microsoft technology to provide a visual and easily understandable presentation of air quality measurement data for the public, enabling comparison of air quality conditions across national and regional borders. The central database, based on SQL Server 2005 and ArcSDE technology, stores all hourly ozone measurements, interpolated ozone raster datasets, and geographic base data. The ozone interpolation engine is a Windows service developed in Visual Studio .NET 2003 and ArcObjects that runs in the background and performs the spatial interpolation of hourly ozone measurements.
