ESRI and Safe Software are working together to deliver complete GIS solutions to our customers.

Safe Software Inc., is the world's leading supplier of spatial data translation software. Founded in 1993, Safe Software is focused on helping organizations enhance access to spatial data resources by providing software solutions that deliver seamless data format translation. Safe Software's products are used worldwide by organizations that need to access and manipulate GIS and CAD data in multiple data formats. Safe Software offers standalone, web-based and embeddable solutions to meet customers' diverse needs.

Today, GIS information extends far beyond the traditional GIS community, becoming a fundamental piece of information infrastructure for many organizations. Safe Software and ESRI worked together to incorporate Safe Software's Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) technology into ESRI's products and jointly developed both the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension and the ArcIMS Data Delivery extension.

  • ArcGIS Data Interoperability—allows GIS professionals to use any standard GIS data within the ArcGIS Desktop environment (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo), regardless of the format
  • ArcIMS Data Delivery—enables users to easily select, export, and deliver data in multiple formats and projections from a centralized Internet Map Server

“The minute you understand you can overlay information from one source onto a map from another source, you can truly understand the concept of interoperability between different data sources” says Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI. “That's when you understand that GIS is fundamentally about interoperability.”
