SAP
Signs Global Reseller Agreement with ESRI Business Partner APOS Systems
The recent signing of a global reseller agreement with APOS Systems, a
provider of extensions to SAP BusinessObjects XI solutions, will allow SAP to
resell select APOS solutions. Included in the offering is the SAP
BusinessObjects Integration for ESRI GIS software, a powerful, two-way
bridge between two industry-leading business intelligence solutions, ESRI
ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server and SAP BusinessObjects XI. Shockwave Flash (SWF)
format-based control enables live ESRI map embedding in Crystal Reports
software, and users can export these reports to a PDF with a working map
control.
Integrating
GIS with SAP
Today, GIS is being called upon to support cross-functional enterprise
applications aimed at entire business processes. This article provides an
overview of integration with SAP and explains why it is not much different
than the work GIS practitioners have done between GIS and other systems. SAP
is both a business platform and an IT platform that is well suited to the
integration of ESRI's open, standards-based GIS.

Tele
Atlas Joins ESRI Small Government Enterprise License Agreement Program
Small governments with limited resources often cannot afford GIS software
that would enable them to leverage their data to better serve their citizens.
In answer to that challenge, ESRI introduced the Small Government Enterprise
License Agreement (ELA) program in 2008. The program has been well received,
and the addition of Tele Atlas' comprehensive street data to power essential
GIS deployments will further the value of the ELA program to all subscribers.
ESRI
and Trimble Announce Mobile Solution Contract with American Water
American Water, the largest investor-owned utility in the United States,
recently selected an ESRI/Trimble solution for field data collection. Faster
turnaround for updating asset data; getting better information back out to
field personnel; and, ultimately, better service to American Water's 15
million customers in 32 states were high priorities in evaluating solutions.
The flexibility of the selected GeoCollector and ProXH solution was another
advantage, as it will accommodate future growth.

Podcast: Leveraging
GIS in a Down Economy [MP3]
Simon Thompson, ESRI's director of commercial business industry solutions,
discusses the state of the GIS market in the current economy. Despite the
downturned economy, businesses are turning to GIS as an analysis tool to
explore options that will help them survive and prosper in a challenging
economic environment. Recognizing that better insight provides better

making.
How
GIS Is Being Used by State of California
As California's first geospatial information officer (GIO), Michael Byrne
recently shared his vision for how GIS would most significantly be used in
his state. The top three priorities include implementing homeland security
strategies; developing policies, procedures, and standards; and aligning the
set of business investors who will ultimately fund the future of GIS in the
state toward a common set of goals. Byrne explains his role as GIO in this video.
Petroleum
Experts Weigh Advantages of Web GIS Technology
The recent ESRI Petroleum User Group (PUG) conference in Houston, Texas, was
a gathering aimed to deal with spatial challenges particular to petroleum
industry needs. Though there are demands specific to that industry, there are
common demands to all industries, including working smarter and leveraging
technology to do so. ESRI's technical experts demonstrated three industry
agnostic trends in GIS: Web GIS, mobile technologies, and cloud-based
computing.
