2007 ESRI International User Conference Highlights
More than 14,000 users attended this year's ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC). The weeklong conference began with a Plenary Session led by ESRI president Jack Dangermond and development staff. They highlighted the ArcGIS 9.3 release, which will include many quality and performance improvements as well as user-requested enhancements. The session also included a Keynote Address by Professor Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize winner, environmentalist, and social activist. The remainder of the conference included one-on-one consultations with GIS software experts, more than 300 technical sessions, more than 1,000 paper presentations, and regional and special interest group meetings. Additionally, more than 310 exhibitors were alongside the ESRI Showcase, contributing to the largest Exhibit Pavilion in the history of the conference.
ESUG at the ESRI UC
This year's ESRI/SAP User Group (ESUG) Annual Meeting at the ESRI UC attracted more than 75 ESUG members and other
ESRI users. The meeting featured presentations from Steve Benner, ESRI's director of strategic accounts and Oliver
Mainka, SAP Labs LLC GIS program manager.
Three focused ESRI/SAP sessions followed the meeting, providing attendees with more specific information on user experiences, technology updates, and implementation options. The presentations were given by ESRI staff; representatives from ESRI/SAP joint customers AES Sul and Valley Mental Health; and ESRI business partners and event cosponsors CyberTech Systems, Inc., and Impress Software.

GIS in Action
The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Forest Service Remote Sensing Applications Center (RSAC) in Salt Lake City,
Utah, is now using ArcGIS Image Server to quickly deliver vast amounts of imagery throughout its organization via an intranet.
Prior to this implementation, the Forest Service struggled to make large volumes of imagery available to staff in its nine regions
across the 50 states. Users often had difficulty loading the imagery due to limited storage capacity.
Service at Sea is a nonprofit, ship-based GIS education program that will launch this year and will include a crew of GIS
experts, scientists, and teachers as well as a videographer. They will circumnavigate the globe with an environmentally
friendly sailboat and offer free training and mapping services to conservation organizations throughout their four-year
expedition. ESRI collaborates with Service at Sea to support many of its technical, education, conservation, and volunteer
needs.
