FDM databases can be "workspaced" to provide secure, private access to multiple stakeholders. This allows data to be stored for multiple agencies in one database while respecting privacy rules. FDMCAD uses ESRI MapObjects to provide a powerful, full-featured map-based solution. The mapping system can be used to geovalidate addresses; locate incidents; graphically display apparatus; locate properties with dangerous goods; and mark hydrant locations, landmarks, and other features. Clients can integrate their custom shapefiles. FDMCAD runs on Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Professional (Windows 98 and NT can be used but are no longer supported by FDM) operating systems and will run on standard Intel Pentium computer hardware. FDMCAD uses Sybase® SQL Anywhere® Version 9.0 or Microsoft SQL Server® 2000 as the relational database management system (RDBMS).
