SchoolSite 9 Released: ArcGIS Software-Based Demographic/Facility Planning Software for Public K–12 School DistrictsCorona, California, November 1, 2004—Davis Demographics & Planning, Inc. (DDP), the premier ESRI business partner and developer for demographic and planning solutions for K–12 school district administration, has announced the release of the latest version of SchoolSite, version 9 for ArcGIS. SchoolSite (still available for ArcView 3.x) now serves as an extension for the ESRI ArcGIS family of desktop products. SchoolSite combines DDP's comprehensive school boundary planning, demographic reporting, and enrollment forecasting tools with the rich functionality in mapping and geographic analysis that is provided through ArcGIS. "SchoolSite 9 is the culmination of two years of development effort working closely with ESRI to take advantage of the latest capabilities of ArcGIS," says Greg Davis, president of Davis Demographics. "School districts now have extensive planning tools available to them as they continue to discover the power that visual geographic analysis brings to the planning process. Furthermore, by building SchoolSite on the foundation of ArcGIS, school districts of all sizes can take advantage of the extensive geographic information system (GIS) tools and the scalability of ESRI software as their GIS requirements expand." SchoolSite takes advantage of all ESRI data formats including coverages, shapefiles, personal geodatabases, and ArcSDE geodatabases. SchoolSite consists of two extensions for ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo. Using wizards to guide the user, the SchoolSite Redistricting Extension combines visual, interactive boundary planning tools with extensive demographic reporting capabilities, allowing district planners to quickly and easily simulate the impact of adjusting attendance boundaries between schools along with options for opening new schools and looking at alternative uses for older campuses. The SchoolSite Projection Extension enables the planner to develop student forecasts for planning areas within the district and attendance zones and districtwide for three to 10 years into the future. This functionality includes an option for simulating district build-out for long-range school site needs analysis. Projections can be summarized by various grade-level groupings and are automatically integrated into the redistricting tools for future site and attendance boundary analysis. "As an early adopter of GIS technology, DDP has worked with ESRI since the mid-1980s delivering many of the first school administrative demographic mapping and planning applications," says Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI. "The release of SchoolSite for ArcGIS illustrates the continuing commitment that DDP has given to providing K–12 school administrators with the most up-to-date planning solutions based on ESRI technology." Today, more than 130 school districts throughout the United States, which range in enrollment size from 1,000 to 150,000, are using DDP services and software to assist their planning efforts. SchoolSite is available for ArcView 3.x, and all ArcGIS 8.3 or 9 desktop products. For more information, contact Davis Demographics & Planning (tel.: 951-270-5211, Web: www.davisdemographics.com).
