Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates Automates Vineyard Inspection with Tadpole Technology Group’s GO! Sync for ArcPadCarlsbad, California, May 9, 2006Tadpole Technology Group has successfully delivered GO! Sync for ArcPad to Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The oldest winery in Washington state, Chateau Ste. Michelle maintains a wealth of spatial data for its numerous vineyards. To keep the grapes growing at peak level, crews routinely inspect the vineyards, digitally capturing relevant information using a custom application developed on ESRI’s ArcPad mobile geographic information system (GIS) platform. The remotely captured data is stored centrally in an enterprise geodatabase, allowing Chateau Ste. Michelle to analyze a vast amount of information relating to the numerous conditions that affect the growth of its vines. Consequently, the data used on the mobile devices needs to be synchronized regularly with the centrally stored data. To streamline this synchronization process and maintain the currency of its enterprise data, Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates has deployed GO! Sync for ArcPad. “We are using mobile devices to make field notes and observations on a range of environmental factors such as insect zones, growth stages, and crop estimates. We are even using them to map vineyard blocks, ground truth aerial imaging, and direct harvesters,” explains Jenn Smithyman from Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. “As a result, we had reached the stage where we had so much data being captured in the field that it was extremely cumbersome and time consuming to manage it. GO! Sync has enabled us to fully automate the process of managing this data, saving us time and improving the efficiency of our vineyard inspections.” GO! Sync for ArcPad is designed to allow organizations using ESRI’s ArcPad software to streamline the data, device, and application management processes. It is a turnkey solution that automates the process of synchronizing GIS data stored on handheld devices with data stored in ArcSDE or a personal geodatabase. “By simplifying the synchronization process, GO! Sync for ArcPad has become a valuable tool for organizations implementing ArcPad. Just like ArcPad, this flexible solution is deployed across a diverse range of user groups and works right out of the box,” says Carrie Turner, Tadpole Technology marketing manager. “And it’s rewarding to state that we now serve the wine industry too.” About Chateau Ste.
