DCSE Announced the Release of Field Mapplet, a Framework for Development of GIS-Enabled Mobile Applications in the Utility IndustryAliso Viejo, CAOctober 26th, 2006. DCSE announced the release of a new product called Field Mapplet. Field Mapplet is a spatially enabled mobile application framework for government and the utility industry. Field Mapplet provides a cost-effective platform for the implementation of mobile field service solutions with emphasis on utility and government organizations. The Field Mapplet framework includes a .NET-based application programming interface (API) that enables a utility to easily construct mobile solutions that include rule-based dispatching, custom workflows, navigation, optimal routing, atlas viewing, as-built and engineering drawing access, and redlining of geographic information system (GIS) data. The Field Mapplet framework supports both connected and disconnected mobile access and includes automated GIS synchronization capabilities. Field Mapplet is an ideal platform for building mobile applications to manage customer requests, work orders, and field data collection, all using a common and easy-to-use interface. The mobile component of Field Mapplet is digital ink enabled and can be used on regular PCs, laptops, and tablet devices. The Field Mapplet framework is used by DCSE to implement a comprehensive underground service alert solution currently in use by a number of major utility districts. It is also being used to develop customer service applications as well as field inspection applications. The Field Mapplet framework integrates with DCSE's MapLibrary to allow viewing of drawings and documents in the field. It also integrates with Mapplet.NET to allow display of the geospatial data collected by the mobile unit in the office environment. "Field Mapplet is the most advanced yet easy-to- use framework for developing field applications. It represents DCSE's extensive experience and understanding of utility requirements combined with the state-of-the-art technology from our partners, Microsoft and ESRI," said Dr. Ali Diba, president and CEO of DCSE.
