ViewPermit Selected by the City of New Haven, CT for new Cloud-hosted Online Permitting System

BELMONT, MA  June 15, 2010—The City of New Haven, CT has officially selected ViewPermit™ for a new GIS-based online electronic permit management system.

The full-function cloud-hosted system will allow residents and businesses to apply, pay for, and receive building, public right-of-way, and other permits online. They can also track the status of their permits as they move through the approval process. On the back end, City departments will use the system to manage permit review, approval, and inspections processes electronically.

“This is an example of our Innovation Based Budgeting efforts coming to fruition,” said New Haven Mayor John DeStefano. “With electronic permitting the City will be able to provide user friendly access for permit applications and streamlined review, approval and issuance of permits. The system will also provide real time, web-based data available to all departments to improve permit tracking, inspection and enforcement efforts. This change will save time, money and aggravation for all parties once it is up and operational.”

Nine towns in the Hartford region are already participating in a similar electronic permitting project sponsored by the Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) which selected ViewPermit™ after a rigorous Request For Proposal process. The original CRCOG agreement was crafted to allow other Connecticut municipalities to participate.

“This program was initiated to promote more responsive, customer-friendly and efficient local government services through a regional approach to technology,“ said Jocelyn Mathiasen, CRCOG Special Projects Coordinator. “The selection process involved IT directors, building officials and administrators from several Connecticut towns. ViewPermit was chosen because of its online functionality, simple user interface, city-wide approach to permit management and the knowledge and flexibility of its project team.”

“We are very excited about working with New Haven,” said Nasser Hajo, ViewPoint Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “We have a proven system that has been well received by the towns in the Hartford region, and we look forward to using all that we have learned from them in implementing the system for New Haven.”
