Spatial Data Logic

Company Overview

Spatial Data Logic (SDL), an Esri Authorized Developer, OEM, Consultant, and Reseller business partner, provides GIS software to local government organizations. Its mission is to build better information management through easy-to-use GIS applications and comprehensive databases.

GeoLogic: Everyday GIS

The GeoLogic Software System is a compilation of GIS software modules that are tailored to different municipal departments and their needs. The GIS is woven into their daily workflows and fosters better synergy with other municipal departments. It is known as the "everyday GIS."

The workflow allows local government employees to operate more efficiently and provides visibility across departments. The integrated GIS allows employees and citizens to determine the location of issues and activities.

Inspectors can search for property details and history, access checklists, process inspection results, and issue their reports from the field. Their daily stops have been plotted, and their routes have been optimized.

GeoLogic puts critical data at staff members' fingertips, simplifies work routines, and adds a spatial component to data and processes.

Developing on the Cutting Edge

SDL believes in developing with cutting-edge software. The current key technologies are Microsoft's .NET initiative and Esri's ArcObjects and MapObjects. The former provides the user interface, the communications, the component framework, and the basic glue to hold the whole system together. The latter provides the three basic tenets of GIS: data storage, map rendering, and geographic analysis.

As a provider of software solutions for local government organizations and a current MapObjects user, we were interested in trying out ArcGIS Engine. We believe there is a real need for comprehensive, embeddable GIS development platforms that allow considerable flexibility in both form and function. Esri is headed in the right direction with products like ArcGIS Engine that will enable us to provide spatially enhanced applications that meet specific business processes.
