ArcGIS Online provides a comprehensive collection of ready-to-use basemaps and imagery services as well as reference layers that can easily be accessed via the Web and used directly in ArcGIS Desktop 9.2, including ArcGIS Explorer.

ArcGIS Online content is pre-rendered, ready-to-use, and hosted by ESRI, so you save time and money because you don't have to invest in additional hardware, staff, or training. We update and maintain the content frequently, so you don't have to worry about data management activities and can focus on your mission-critical work instead.

Connect to ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Online is currently in beta. If you are an existing ArcGIS Desktop user, register for the beta program and the follow the instructions in the ArcGIS Online Quick-Start Guide to connect to ArcGIS Online.

If you are new to ArcGIS Desktop or don't have an existing license, request an ArcGIS Evaluation CD or download ArcGIS Explorer.

USA Prime Imagery

Seamless mosaic of 1-meter resolution aerial imagery for the contiguous United States and satellite imagery for the world at 500-meter and 15-meter resolutions. The high resolution imagery is a color mosaic of commercial and government imagery sources including recent commercial imagery for metropolitan areas and the best available government imagery for other areas. Includes topographic maps for the United States at 1:250,00, 1:100,00, and 1:24,000 scale along with the Natural Earth physical map at a resolution of 1.24 kilometers for the world. Reference layers include transportation, general boundaries, and place names for the world.

Political World from National Geographic's Atlas of the World
Digital version of the of the Political World map from National Geographic's Atlas of the World, Eight Edition. Shows the extends of sovereignty for 192 nations and can serve as a background for other data layers such as current events, economic status, and information about issues and events influenced by politics and culture.

Physical World

1:100K map of Colorado
Presents the Natural Earth imagery at global and continental scales at 1.24-kilometer resolution for the world and 500 meter for the conterminous United States. Includes scanned versions of the Operational Navigation Charts (ONCs) at 1:1,000,000 scale. The ONCs were produced by the U.S. National Geospatial Agency (NGA) and include a variety of physical and cultural features. This layer includes more than 200 publicly available charts across the world.
Shaded Relief

Shaded relief imagery for the world at 90 meters for all land areas between 60° north and -56° south latitude. All other areas are at 1-kilometer resolution.

Historical World
 
The historical map shows the routes of the great explorers of the 18th century.
Digital version of the Pinkerton 1812 map from the David Rumsey collection. The historical map is draped onto the Political World map from National Geographic's Atlas of the World, Eighth Edition.

This data is well suited for understanding how the world's places and boundaries have evolved over the past 250 years. For example, you can use this globe to trace the paths of the great explorers of the 18th century.
