ArcGIS users have seamless access to Bing Maps with the ArcGIS 9.3.1 release. ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Web Mapping API users can directly connect to Bing Maps to enhance their GIS projects.
ArcGIS Desktop—Access to Bing Maps services is free for ArcGIS Desktop users who are current on maintenance and includes 50,000 transactions per license per year. ArcGIS Desktop users may also purchase an annual subscription with no transaction limit.
ArcGIS Explorer—Users can access and share transactions through an existing ArcGIS Desktop license that is installed on the same machine. If you are using ArcGIS Explorer independently, then you must license Bing Maps separately. At this time, separate Bing Maps licenses are not yet available for stand-alone ArcGIS Explorer use. Please check back soon.
ArcGIS Server—Users can access a built-in, free, 90-day evaluation of Bing Maps, after which an annual, transaction-based subscription can be purchased. The 90-day evaluation can be leveraged with the .NET Application Development Framework (ADF), and the Flex, JavaScript, and Microsoft Silverlight ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs. In addition, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs also include access to Bing Maps geocoding.

*Bing Maps Search is used in conjunction with geocoding. The Search function allows for a single input string. **If you have enabled Bing Maps for use in ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1, ArcGIS Explorer will use the same license when installed on the same machine. If you are using ArcGIS Explorer independently, then you must license Bing Maps separately. At this time separate Bing Maps licenses are not yet available for standalone ArcGIS Explorer use. ***The ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight also supports reverse geocoding. |
