Spatial Analysis

What Are Spatial Analysis Services?

With spatial analysis services you can analyze your data hosted in ArcGIS Online to answer such questions as: where is the best location for a new school or retail store; how many crimes have occurred within a city; and, where are the traffic accident hot spots within a county. You can share the results of your analysis with others in your organization, or share them publicly with a broader audience.

How Many Service Credits Does Spatial Analysis Use?

Spatial Analysis Credits Used
Analyze Features (points, lines, areas) 1 credit per 1,000 features
Summarize Nearby 0.5 credits per drive time or drive distance
Create Drive-Time Areas 0.5 credits per drive time or drive distance
Find Nearest 0.5 credits per closet location found
Enrich Layer (GeoEnrichment) 10 credits per 1,000 data variables (attributes)
Storing Analysis Results 1.2 credits per 1 GB stored per month

Below are some examples that illustrate the estimated number of service credits it would take to analyze certain features.

Scenario 1

In order to keep the schools safe, the police department wants to monitor the number of crimes in each school district. Using the Aggregate Points function, the police can select a school district and get a count of the number of crimes, by specific type of crime.

Total number of crimes (points) 206,329
Number of police reporting districts (areas) 75
Credits Used (crime points + districts / 1,000) 206.40

Scenario 2

After a major tornado hit an area, the insurance company wants to calculate the property damage caused by the tornado. Using the Summarize Within function, the insurance company can calculate the property damage based on the total area of properties within each tornado path, by type of property (i.e. commercial or residential).

Total Number of parcels (areas) 10,000
Number of tornado paths (areas) 5
Credits Used (parcels + paths / 1,000) 10.005

Scenario 3

The major wants to know if there are areas in the city that have a higher volume of 911 calls and compare the results to the location of the city’s emergency response stations. Using the Find Hotspots function, city staff can identify statistically significant hotspots of 911 calls made in the past three years.

Total Number of 911 calls (points) 20,000
Credits Used (calls / 1,000) 20
