The data is delivered in map cache format and is published in WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) projected coordinate system (WKID 102100) as 256 x 256-pixel tiles. The cache can be used in all ArcGIS clients.
You can purchase a license for Data Appliance for ArcGIS with additional storage capacity to host your own map data in either ArcGIS cache format or other formats—for example, shapefile or file geodatabase—and then publish the map data as services. You can then combine your services with the Data Appliance services in your applications.
If you cache your data, we recommend that you keep your data and services separate from those provided with the Data Appliance. This reduces the possibility that your data is inadvertently replaced when Data Appliance updates are delivered to you.
Data Appliance for ArcGIS is delivered on a network-attached storage (NAS) device that can be connected to your organization's local network along with another server running ArcGIS for Server Standard or Advanced, at the Enterprise or Workgroup level.
Once Data Appliance for ArcGIS is connected to the network, services can be deployed using ArcGIS for Server to combine with the map services on Data Appliance for ArcGIS. The Data Appliance for ArcGIS Help documentation provides the necessary steps to publish the map data as services.
You will not receive any updates the first year that you have Data Appliance for ArcGIS. After the first year, you will receive one update per year when the Yearly Renewal is purchased. Please note that you will automatically be billed for the Yearly Renewal and Support, and updates will be delivered after the payment is received.
The initial purchase of Data Appliance for ArcGIS includes a right-to-use license for one year that is extended through the purchase of a yearly renewal license. Esri's agreement with the data providers does not allow perpetual use of the map data. However, you do own the hardware and can continue using it as you wish.
